Love Post: Incomplete without You!

“Incomplete without You” is a heartfelt post for the love of my life. It’s dedicated to the woman who makes my life wonderful.

“Incomplete without You” is a heartfelt love post for the love of my life. It’s dedicated to the woman who makes my life wonderful and complete. Cheers to her and us together!

Here it goes: Incomplete without You, a love post dedicated to Guddu

Whenever I stay away from you, more deeply I begin to realize how incomplete I feel without you. Having you by my side is the only real experience I long for. I do indulge in excesses, worldly pleasures and pursuits. These experiences thrill and excite me and make me forget the otherwise busyness of life. However, none of these experiences have ever or ever will touch my soul, which my love, you own completely. If I die tomorrow, I know I am at peace for I have been fortunate to have spent a part of my life with you and that shines as the best part of my life. You are a beautiful woman, inside and out. You own everything around you, like a queen. The people you meet are in awe of you and anything that gets your attention transforms itself from merely existing to a magical force of life. Be it the food, colors on canvas or me. I miss you will always be an understatement, I merely survive when you are not around, waiting for the time when I can be back with you, waiting for the time when I can feel complete again!

Ghazal on Politics, in Hindi:

चुनाव का मौसम, this ghazal on politics draws its inspiration from a viral video wherein a woman candidly expressed her feelings about politics

चुनाव का मौसम, this ghazal on politics is a satire on the current climate in our country where multiple states are in the process or about to host assembly elections. Democracy is what keeps us going, a country which proudly boasts of unimaginable unity at its core despite a multitude of diversity. This ghazal on politics draws its inspiration from a viral video few years ago wherein a woman candidly expressed her feelings about the state of politics in this country from a view of a common citizen. It was hilarious and yet meaningful. See the video here (please be warned, this video contains abusive language)

This ghazal on politics is not a reference to any particular party or outfit, rather it’s a take on the profession of politics which is notorious and I feel because of this notoriety, the profession as a whole is underappreciated despite the value its adds to nation. Someone has to do the job, after all!

Here it goes: चुनाव का मौसम, a ghazal on politics written in hindi

Ghazal on Love, in Hindi:

This ghazal on love, काफी नहीं थी, is a lover’s expression of melancholy for his beloved decided to no longer be a part of his life

काफी नहीं थी, this ghazal on love is a lover’s expression of melancholy for his beloved decided to no longer be a part of his life. However, the lover expresses that his beloved is an irreplaceable part of his life and she will continue to be with him in the form of his thoughts, his pain and his anguish.

Here it goes: काफी नहीं थी, a ghazal on love written in hindi

Ghazal on Life, in Hindi:

This ghazal on life, बेच आया , written in hindi presents the guilt of a person who takes away what belongs to others, to make his ends meet

बेच आया, this ghazal on life is written from the perspective of a person who feels the guilt of his actions and doesn’t know how to stop the guilt or the actions that lead to the guilt. The dichotomy of the situation lends itself to the emotions expressed in this ghazal.

I hope all of us find ways to live our dreams and never have to be in a situation to compromise who we are and what we stand for.

Ghazal in Hindi: गुनहगार (Israel-Hamas War)

गुनहगार, this ghazal in hindi is a grim reminder and an expression of helplessness which engulfs me as I continue to hear about stories from the Israel-Hamas war

गुनहगार, this ghazal in hindi is a grim reminder and an expression of helplessness which engulfs me as I continue to hear about stories from the war zone. Russia-Ukraine started last year and Israel-Hamas war started this year. The end for neither of those seems near. It seems far fetched and rather painful that in this modern era, there is still a space where humans are killing each other. Differences over geography and religion continue to ignite emotions and burn down lives. Alas, looks like we have read history of world wars, repented and berated those but yet, humanity continues to witness killing – some directly in the wars and at other times in incidents of mass shootings and terrorist activities.

How will we justify our actions to the future generations? As we dump the weight of our actions today on their trembling shoulders.

Here it goes: गुनहगार a ghazal in hindi, a reflection on Israel-Hamas war

Ghazal in Hindi:

वो जो आगे निकल गए हैं is a ghazal in hindi which laments the arrogance induced by abundance and acknowledges being clutched thyself

This ghazal in hindi is an attempt to underscore the arrogance induced by wealth amongst many of us. People (me included) enjoy the display of abundance and conveniently forget that their fortunes are influenced by the kindness of the almighty (Rabb). This behavior is induced by ‘us’, as we have come to appreciate and idolize those with material success. Some of us detest it though, but ironically only till the time we don’t step into abundance!

Hope this reminds us all to be grateful and kind!

Here it goes: वो जो आगे निकल गए हैं, a ghazal in hindi

(Emotions like Sand)

This hindi shayari is about how we make futile attempts to feel in control of our emotions, like sand wishing to get away from the desert.

This hindi shayari is inspired by the stand up poetry show that I attended yesterday. Stand up poetry is a unique concept and follows the lead of stand up comedy shows which have gained popularity in the last 3 to 5 years. Helly Shah, the performer and poet in yesterday’s event, craftily embedded her poetry in a story telling style which was very engaging. Inspired by her poetic story telling style, I have crafted a few lines below which are different from the usual writing style of ‘shers’ or ‘nazms’ which are couplets. This piece is free flowing in style but yet retains the usual flavor of simplicity and easy to read language.

This hindi shayari is about how we make futile attempts to feel in control of our emotions, like sand wishing to get away from the desert.

While reading, try to say it out as you read with pauses as per the structure below, hopefully it will resonate with you.

Here it goes: Hindi Shayari, (Emotions like Sand)

(Necessity)

This Shringara Ras poetry in hindi is to celebrate the devotion to the beloved, the one who is necessary for existence and everything else

This poetry in hindi is Shringara Ras, which is the Ras for love and beauty. This Shringara Ras poetry is inspired by the devotion to the beloved, which is an absolute necessity for everything.

Here it goes: ज़रूरी है (Necessity), a shringara ras poetry in hindi

(Trapped in the middle): Poetry in Hindi

This poetry in hindi expresses a dichotomy of feeling trapped in the middle of ambition and emotion. Hope it resonates with you!

(Trapped in the middle) is a poetry in hindi is inspired from a recent goodbye I bid to my family. My parents stay with us for only a few months in year and my brother is settled outside the country. I yearn for a time when our entire family could stay together all the time. My parents, my brother, bhabhi and our adorable baby princess Freya.

These short stays together and goodbyes have become a way of life for us ever since my brother and I started working as we didn’t take up jobs in our city beautiful, ‘Chandigarh’ and went with the flow of wherever the opportunities took us. So many of my friends around me are in a similar situation and they are building their lives away fro their families. With time, this becomes a habit and at times it gets harder to then adjust to people around you, even your loved ones.

The poetry expresses that dichotomy of feeling trapped in the middle of ambition and emotion. Hope it resonates with you!

Here it goes: मझदार (Trapped in the middle), a poetry in hindi

Hindi Poetry for Indians abroad

परदेस, is a hindi poetry for Indians who are settled outside India and miss their home country but hide their emotions

परदेस, is a hindi poetry for Indians who are settled outside India. So many people leave their home country in search for greener pastures. Most of them work hard, become successful and lead good lives. At the same time most of them reminisce their connection to their home country. They dearly miss their family and friends. And often wish they could visit their home country more often, or even move back permanently! My brother and many of my close friends stay abroad. I know they go through this gnawing feeling of loneliness, a craving to speak to someone in their native language or from their culture.

However, they courageously (or helplessly) continue to stay abroad. They overcome these overwhelming emotions to make things work, not for themselves, but for the better future of their children and family. I hope our country gets to stage where greener pastures are aplenty on this side of the border. I hope families can stay together, much like they used to, a few decades ago!

Here it goes: परदेस (foreign), hindi poetry for Indians abroad
