काफी नहीं थी, this ghazal on love is a lover’s expression of melancholy for his beloved decided to no longer be a part of his life. However, the lover expresses that his beloved is an irreplaceable part of his life and she will continue to be with him in the form of his thoughts, his pain and his anguish.

अच्छा होता जो याद रखने का वादा ना करते
लहज़े में उनके हक़ीक़त काफी नहीं थी

हम करने ही वाले थे ख़लिश अपनी बयां
उनके पास हमारे लिए मौहलत काफी नहीं थी

आसमान की गहरायी से ज़्यादा चाहा उन्हें
समंदर की ऊंचाई जैसी इबादत काफी नहीं थी

अब दर्द की चुभन मलहम लगने लगी है
सिर्फ तन्हाई की सोहबत काफी नहीं थी

पल पल मरने के लिए ज़िंदा हैं अब हम
इक बार मरने की सज़ा काफी नहीं थी

जोड़ लो नाम हमारा आशिकों की फेहरिस्त में
विरह की कहानियां मशहूर अभी काफी नहीं थी

फिर इक बार मोहब्बत ढूंढने निकले हैं हम
बेवफाई की बस इक ठोकर काफी नहीं थी
