A ghazal in hindi inspired by the beautiful fleeting encounters which are beautiful only because they are ephemeral.
Welcome to the first post for 2024, a ghazal in Hindi! This year, I have decided to post content weekly instead of bi-weekly that I did last year. I want to focus more deeply on my work (the joy the writing) and bring out the best of it for all of you to read and experience. To become a good writer, it’s important to read a lot. I am an my journey of reading and consuming all the good stuff around me.
Here is the first ghazal in hindi for this year, inspired by the beautiful fleeting encounters which are beautiful only because they are ephemeral. Have you ever experienced an interaction which you wished never ended but it had to? The incompleteness of these interactions is probably what makes them complete, isn’t it?
Here it goes: A ghazal in hindi,
Here is look back at 2023 and the journey of Versatilistaqua.com with top 5 most viewed posts of the year.
A big thank you for visiting my website versatilistaqua and reading this post. And a big thank you, if you read any poetry, travel stories or book reviews posted on this site in the last 12 months! Your feedback, encouragement and comments have been the fuel to my fire. Please keep them coming.
Year 2023 has been an incredible journey for my writing, the one that I am proud of. And yet, I am thoroughly convinced that this is just the beginning. My writing journey started way back in 2007 but I have been a reluctant writer ever since. It took me 16 years to finally embrace my identity as someone who loves to write. I am glad, it has finally happened.
Look Back at the Versatilist’s journey for 2023:
My website got close to 4000 visits and 6500 views, that’s massive! This is 5 times of cumulative views for last 5 years (2018-22). To add to that, more than 900 likes in a single year, is sweet!
I am thrilled by the input metric though, close to 100 posts this year. I have been writing consistently.
Even google rewards persistence. Google search reached a high of 350 search views per month, it was just 20 in Aug’23. 17x in 5 months is incredible.
Most viewed Content on Versatilistaqua in 2023: Top 5
I will continue to post here, for 2024 and beyond. However, starting 2024, I will post every Sunday only, instead of 2 posts per week. I want to invest more time in writing, rewriting and honing my skill to publish much better content for all of you! I invite you to share your comments, thoughts and feedback, it would be great to hear from you. Cheers, and wish you a happy new year in advance!

Have you rode 650Km in a day, on a motorbike, and solo? Sounds crazy and amazing, isn’t it? An insightful post on ride from Bangalore to Goa.
Have you rode 650Km in a day, on a motorbike, and solo? Sounds crazy and amazing, isn’t it? That’s what I experienced a couple of weeks ago: a solo motorbike road trip from Bangalore to Goa. It was my second long distance bike tour! If you are a motorbiking enthusiast who has done this journey or dreams of doing it, read on to re-live and get some insights. For others, enjoy the spectator view!
My Bangalore to Goa road trip in December 2021 was my first long distance motorbike ride. It was fueled by a burning desire to spend time with the bike. It was relatively ad-hoc and I was under prepared as a biker. I faced some challenges, but overall the trip was superb.
Over the last couple of years, the burning desire has transformed into a red hot flame love for biking. Of course, I wanted to do this long distance Bangalore to Goa road trip again! This time around I felt more in control as a biker and had more fun! The challenges came up again, fortunately though, there was nothing which disrupted the journey!
In this post, I will share details on the Bangalore to Goa route options, some challenges associate with motorbiking, recommended pit stops for eating, and a few other tips for anyone looking to take this journey.
My plan was to be deliberately unplanned. I had not done any hotel bookings in Goa but I wanted to be in the north of Goa. Still a newbie rider, in my last ride I had taken an overnight stay in Hubli. However, this time around I wanted to complete the journey on the same day. It worked out well as my preparation and confidence as a biker has grown over the last 2 years.
Route for Onward Journey: South Bangalore to North Goa
Bangalore > Neelamangala > Tumkur > Sira > Hiriyur > Haveri > Bankapura Toll (Take left from here)> Mundgod > Yellapur > Ankola > Karawar > Panjim > North Goa
This route is scenic! En route is a lake, country roads lined up with trees on the sides and surrounded by fields and plantations. The roads are quiet, sparse vehicle density and the Tibetan monastery near Mundgod is a worthy stop.
Total travel time for me was approximately 14 hours with some breaks. The road condition overall is good however the stretch from Bankapura Toll to Yellapur was in a bad shape. With the ongoing road work, there were several patches which were under repair. Unfortunately, the patches intact were full of potholes as well. This made the journey slow and a bit draining. You will also encounter a lot of trucks on the journey from Yellapur to Ankola, thankfully though this stretch of the road is in a better condition.
Route for Return Journey: South Goa to South Bangalore
The road trip through coastal Karnataka is breathtaking!
Check the Sea in the Background!
Murudeshwar is an amazing place destination to cover. I stayed the night however it can be covered in 2-3 hours. The grand Shiva statue overseeing the ocean, the beach buzzing with energy and the beautiful sunset make it a hard to miss destination.
For the return journey, ideally I wanted to take the route from Mulki to Hassan. However, I changed my mind last minute and decided to go via Mangalore. The NH75 road from Mangaluru to Hassan via Sakleshpura is under construction which meant that it was the toughest part of the ride. Although, the road condition after Sakleshpura improved, overall there were long rough and muddy patches, potholes and clouds of dust all through till Hassan. Once the road work is done in the next 6 months perhaps, this could be a good route option to breeze through.
Motorbiking: The pleasure and Challenges
If you spend enough time with a machine, you start to think of it as a living being. My red beauty, Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X hits a state of flow around 90Kmph. The engine sound and the vibrations merge into a harmonic rhythm. The bike just cruises along, gobbling the empty stretches of highway under its wheels. The feeling of riding the machine in the state of flow is rejuvenating, adrenaline pumping and blissful!
Challenges:
On a long distance ride, it’s wise to expect some challenges for both the man and the machine. You can’t control or prevent all of those. You will just need to find a way to manage those.
Machine
a) During the onward journey, a thumping noise originated at the front. I anxiously waited to reach Yellapur town to get it checked. Thankfully, it was minor – fork nut had gotten loose.
b) In the return journey, speedometer stopped working. In post trip maintenance I realized that speedometer assembly short circuited.
c) Last time around, the nuts became loose and the number plate was floating. It was tough to a find a screw which could hold it together, especially when you are passing through areas where maintenance is distant.
Man
a) Body starts to tire and demands frequent stops. In particular, be ready for a sore butt and lower back.
b) The riding helmets are heavy and tightly fit. Head and neck bear the load and the brunt in broken roads.
c) you tend to feel sleepy! Absolutely critical to find out what keeps you awake. For me, it’s tea/candy/chewing gum or I sing songs to myself!
Any challenges that you faced as a rider?
Recommended Pit Stops on Bangalore to Goa road trip
a) Hotel Sai Palace a neat, tidy and quick service restaurant which is apt for families
b) Apoorva Resorts. This is my favorite stop whether I ride or drive by car. Woodfired benne masala dosa is wow!
c) Masala Suruchi Veg, I tried the veg thali here and it was good. It’s around 145 Kms from Bangalore so it serves as a good checkpoint.
A few tips for bikers:
Do not ride without proper safety gear. A good quality helmet, riding jacket, gloves, riding pants or knee and shin guards, riding boots or trekking boots which cover ankles. This is basic!
Start early from Bangalore, around 5 am would be perfect. You get empty roads on the onward journey and relatively less traffic.
Assuming you would carry some luggage, get good quality bungee cords and cover for your luggage. I use Rynox bungees and it is reliable.
Have a plan B. If you are not able to make the entire journey in a single ride, it’s absolutely ok take a night rest mid-journey. Remember you are not riding for glory or records!
If you ride during the night, which I don’t recommend, having fog lamps on your bike is a must!
It is important to enjoy the journey, talk to your machine and treat it and the road with respect!
Bike Gear I have I invested in:
Helment: MT Thunder III
Gloves: Alpinestars
Leg Guards: Rynox
Jacket: Royal Enfield L1
Boots: Decathlon Hiking Boots
Bungees: Rynox
It will be great to get to hear about the biking accessories and safety gear you like.
Summary
Motorbiking is a serious sport which gives adrenaline rush, and at the same time, it helps to build resilience and maturity. I often ride with a superb bunch of riding enthusiasts for short trips around Bangalore. The feeling of camaraderie is inspiring!
It would be great to hear your thoughts, experiences and recommendations for Bangalore to Goa road trip. From my experience, I am happy to share any insights which you may be looking for. I wish you happy and safe travels, and a very happy New Year 2024!
A ghazal on romance written at a beach while witnessing the sunset and the wonderful people who fill the air with the scent of romance!
A ghazal on romance inspired primarily while witnessing the sunset at a beach, and of course the wonderful people, lovers who fill the air with the scent of romance!
Here it goes: Ghazal on Romance,
Are you planning your travel to Dubai? Here is some really useful information to help you plan and make your visit memorable and fun!
Are you planning your travel to Dubai? May be yes, here are the top 5 experiences in Dubai and super insights for you!
Dubai is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and in particular millions of Indians travel to Dubai every year. Typically, Nov to Jan is considered a good time for travel to Dubai as the weather is more forgiving.
Dubai was on my bucket list for quite long. So, in the first week of December, my partner and I completed a memorable trip to this sought after destination. Our 7 day trip started from Bangalore and we spent 5 nights in Dubai (may not be enough) and 1 night in Abu Dhabi. In this post, I’ll share some keys tips with you on planning your travel, things to do in Dubai and some key insights and reflections, which will help you add to your experience of visiting Dubai, and may be help you save some money!
My Top 5 Experiences in Dubai
Dubai is known for it’s mega structures, 6-lane highways (wow!) and it provides a lot of opportunities to shop. Of course, when it comes to shopping, big brands often get the limelight but old Dubai areas like Deira and Bur Dubai offer good opportunity to shop local stuff at value for money prices.
Which attractions to Prioritize in your Dubai itinerary:
There are so many attractions in Dubai which are marketed to tourists. Most of these come with entry tickets, and of course not all of these are worth visiting or worth the price. With the experience of hindsight, here are some top experiences which I enjoyed the most and recommend for you:
Burj Khalifa is a must do experience and the timing of your visit is the key here. I advise to enter just before the sunset so that you can experience expanse of the space in the daylight and the mesmerizing glitter of the beaming sky scrapers in the night. Looking down from this height felt scary at first.
I found the lift as the most fascinating part because it travels 125 floors in 60 seconds (wow!). Don’t be surprised if you hear Bollywood music playing on top of Burj Khalifa. It’s no joke, I mean it! Courtesy heavy influx of tourists from India may be!
Tip: Buy the ticket which offers a complimentary drink/pastry
Adventure
Desert Safari is a unique experience. My adventure started with quad biking which I wouldn’t get to do in India, and it was worth every single penny. I got an adrenaline rush speeding my quad through the sand and splashing it up in the air.
The adrenaline rush continued as the 4×4 7 seater SUV started bashing the dunes! The popular Dune Bashing is, well, a bumpy and exhilarating adventure. For someone with motion sickness, sand dunes bashing might not be an enjoyable experience. However, an opportunity to get breathtaking pictures in a desert, with the backdrop of a setting sun is too good to miss out on!
The adventure subsided into a laid back yet engaging entertainment at the desert camp. At the camp, we enjoyed superb performances which included belly dance, tanoura dance and fire show. All these performances were unique, and left us in awe! A food buffet in a cool desert evening, to go along with splendid performances was a perfect reminder that we are in the emirates!
Tip: There are around 200 desert camps in Dubai and experience is more or less similar, performances and food quality may vary across different camps but for a first time traveler, it’s ok to go with the flow.
Dubai Mall and Dubai fountain is a jaw dropping experience. The mall almost felt like a maze! The vastness of the place, number of top brands, variety of food options available and the price tags on some of the items, all of it was incredible!
Tip: Try tasty and cost effective Indian meals i.e. rice/dal or chapati/paneer at Waitrose outlet in Dubai Mall.
In the public square around the fountain, the spectacular views of tall buildings, including Burj Khalifa, continue to live in my eyes like pictures stored in the phone gallery. The visuals of water dancing to the rhythm of the music and swerving with the lights were soothing and captivating. The water fountain is quite similar to the water fountain in Las Vegas.
Burj Khalifa Square
For wandering souls
Miracle Garden is a place which makes you wonder in awe! To think of a desert blooming with the fragrance of millions of flowers is a testimony to the will of humans to defy all odds. Of course, a testimony to the power of money as well! A full sized plane, every inch of which is hugged by the multi colored flavors, is like the emblem of this garden.
How did they manage to build it and then how do they keep it in the mesmerizing shape is commendable! It’s Dubai’s attempt to add greenery and color to its being! It’s worth spending 3-4 hours. We strolled around and admired the beauty of the landscape and wondered at the contrast of natural yet man made beauty. The India style small shopping outlets lined up across the walking periphery make you feel, at home!
Tip: Take a bus to Emirates Mall and hop onto the metro for cost effective travel
Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood has the old world charm. We enjoyed walking in the alleys which had a rustic yet magnificent vibe. You can spend about half an hour walking in the area. It offers flea market kind of shopping options in small stores. Dubai creek is at a walking distance. You can get a cruise from the creek area to explore Dubai on water.
Tip: Try an Arabian platter at Arabian Tea House and flavored camel milk or camel milk ice cream at the stall in the alleys
We didn’t spend too much time in the New Dubai i.e. Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis and Marina Walk etc. We just had a nice lunch at an uptown restaurant located at The Pointe, to catch up with an old friend.
The Pointe, Dubai
Some Dubai attractions you can skip:
Dubai Frame: This is unlikely to make you feel the awe, after you visit Burj Khalifa.
Museum of the Future: The tickets for this attraction need to be booked at least 2-3 months in advance which doesn’t suit the happy go lucky travelers like me.
Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo: Good to skip unless you really love watching water animals
Experiences I suggest to add:
Spend time on Marina Walk
Take a cruise around the Atlantis/Palm Jumeirah
Dubai Ski experience, I heard mixed reviews about this
Great Tips for your Travel to Dubai
Dubai Visa
There is visa on arrival for people who hold US/UK visitor visa. This is a great option! You can get the visa at the airport, the service is swift, not crowded and costs less than half the price of a regular tourist visa.
Tickets for Dubai Attractions
You don’t need to buy any tickets in advance. I picked up tickets on the go, right before entering the attraction. Klook app worked really well for me. I recommend this option because:
I was able to get discounted pricing compared the price at the counter. You can use JP3WCR this referral code for 400 INR promo code on Klook app.
It saved time as I skipped the ticketing queue at the attraction, the queues at Burj Khalifa are particularly long!
I could make payments digitally and hence didn’t need to convert cash. Additionally, I could pick and choose attractions as I wasn’t tied to a tour where I paid upfront for all attractions.
You get to compare easily and sometimes local vendors work better if you have the right contacts. I got an uber cool deal for Desert Safari through a local vendor!
If you have bought tickets to any theme park on Yas Island, your travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi is free of cost! You can use the free shuttle service, which many people aren’t aware of.
Staying Connected in Dubai: Sim and WiFi
There is WiFi at most places. You will get a sim card with 1gb data at the airport but I would advise to get your roaming pack activated. Importantly, you might know, WhatsApp calling (video/audio), Facetime etc. doesn’t work in UAE. Yes, you read that right!
Transport in Dubai
Avoid using Uber or Careem to book cabs. You can easily hail a taxi on the street with minimum fare of 12 AED, that I believe works better than app based taxis.
NOL cards are integrated across different means of transport: metro, tram, bus and boat. I suggest to get a silver NOL card, where you pay 25 AED and get 19 AED travel balance. Travel cost for most destinations is between 3 to 5 AED.
Suggested Itinerary for Dubai
Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain – 1 day
Desert Safari, with a few lazy hours in the morning – 1 day
Miracle Garden, Palm Jumeirah, The Pointe – 1 day
Visit to the souks for shopping and a night party in Dubai – 1 day
Yas Island, Abu Dhabi – 1 day
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan Palace and lazy evening on Corniche street – 1 day
The Trip Ends Here
When I started planning my travel to Dubai, I was looking for validated information consolidated at one place, but I couldn’t find much. I am certain this post has given you some insights, and hopefully helped you re-live some memories if you have already travelled to Dubai.
How was your experience in Dubai, do you relate to any information mentioned here? It would be great to hear from you in the comments. If you have any questions, you can put those in the comments and I’ll be happy to share what I experienced. I wish you happy travels, Cheers!
I watched the live matches of Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 in Bangalore and it was a great experience. Have you watched Kabaddi live?
Have you ever watched professional kabaddi live? It’s possible that your answer is a No! For a cricket crazy nation that we are, Kabaddi and other sports often unintentionally skip the consciousness of even ardent sports fans!
I am glad that I now have an affirmative answer to this question. Yes, I experienced watching live kabaddi match, thanks to Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 10.
KS at PKL Season 10 Live Match
This year’s season started on 2nd Dec, from Ahmedabad and moved to Bangalore from 8th Dec. Shree Kanteerava stadium is the venue for Pro kabaddi league Season 10 matches till December 13th, 2023. From Bangalore, the action will move to several different cities; Pune is next and is followed by Chennai, Noida, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad and other cities. Check PKL fixtures here.
Did you know these facts:
Kabaddi is an extremely popular sport in India and several other countries like Pakistan, Iran, China, Japan, England etc. participate in this sport. Kabaddi is the national sport of our neighbor, Bangladesh!
In 2022, Pro Kabaddi league was the most watched sports league in the country, trumped of course, only by IPL.
India has won all Kabaddi world cups ever organized, except once, when Pakistan was the winner (circle style tournament organized by Govt. of Punjab)
At the Asian games, India is a dominant force in Kabaddi. We have won 8/9 gold medals (Men) and 3/4 gold medals (Women) across all editions.
Pro Kabaddi League: My Experience
The tickets for Pro Kabaddi league, are available on Bookmyshow. Typically there are two back to back matches hosted in the single day. I watched Bangalore Bulls vs Dabang Delhi and UMumbai vs Puneri Paltan. Unfortunately, the home team lost the match!
The atmosphere in the stadium was electric! There were barely any empty seats and popular Kannada movie actor Sudeep was in attendance. Kabaddi is an extremely fast paced sport and it was hard to keep pace. The agility of the players is incredible. To see them warming up before the game is a joy. They can jump high, very high. They do mid air splits and just seem to be bouncing around. Players’ fitness is a unique combination of muscle strength and high flexibility. Their energy is infectious and their fitness made me feel, well, appreciative but jealous!
Some of the tackles during the match were jaw dropping! “Have you seen a pack of lions attack their prey? I haven’t”. I imagine it won’t be very different from how the team pounces on the raider from the opposing team. To watch a strongly built six feet human circled by a bunch of other humans and not allowed to move even a few inches is an unparalleled experience!
PKL Season 10 Live Action
Buoyed by the home crowd support, at one point during the Bangalore Bulls match, they came back from behind and put up a good fight to narrow the points gap. Then, every raid was getting cheered and the anxiety was palpable. It didn’t last long; however it’s hard not to acknowledge the nail biting and anxious moments that this sport can give the spectators. Isn’t that what we want when we go out to watch sports?
Conclusion:
Overall, I had a great experience and I am now certain that I want to watch this sport live again. For 2024, both IPL and Pro Kabaddi League are on my bucket list!
Have you watched a kabaddi match live or plan to do so this year or next? It will be great to hear about your thoughts and experience in the comments section.
So together, let’s say Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi!

दूरियां, ghazal on distance in relationships portrays the ‘distance’ as an actress who actively stalks close relationships, waiting for her moment to find a place in the story. She charms the people involved and consumes them with her seductive moves.
She promises to give them freedom and a safe hiding spot for anyone. Closeness in relationships is her nemesis and she is jealous of any closeness, and morphs herself as someone who accentuates the closeness!
Come to think of it, and the role distance has played in your relationships! Many times, it feels draining and yet it feels liberating and compelling. Hope you enjoy this personification!
Here it goes: दूरियां, a ghazal on distance in relationships
The post includes a Hindi poem on societal influences, critiquing how powerful entities shape perceptions and behavior, often without question. The author urges readers to think independently and continue doing the right things, despite external influences.
मत दो, hindi poetry on social issues highlights how our society has shaped itself wherein the powerful people control how we think and act in this world, without realizing that we are making a choice out of free will, however we choose out the options which are presented to us tactfully by people who are in control.
Many of us, naively follow the rhetoric presented to us by media (social, print and tv). We accept without questioning and move on to something else, another distraction that can keep us occupied. What if we are influenced to stop doing basic things, some of which are presented in the piece below – does it sound awkward? May be, yes! Let’s keep thinking freely, and let’s keep doing the right things!
कोई तो मिला होगा, a ghazal on gratitude is a heartfelt expression of awe for those amazing people who selflessly help others
कोई तो मिला होगा, this ghazal on gratitude is a heartfelt expression of awe for those amazing people who have helped me at so many different points in my life. If we reflect about our lives, we can think of many such people and times where someone brought in a ray of hope with them, when things seemed difficult. I have many a times received selfless support which makes me wonder, why would they even do it? And invariably, the answer is that they are just who they are! They know how to give in abundance.
When I think of how many times my motives get clouded by what’s in it for me, I remind myself of these instances! This ghazal on gratitude is my attempt to encourage all of us to pay it forward, to pass on all the help and support we have received, to someone who needs it!
These are the memories that stick and may be that’s what Karma is! I wish all of us get an opportunity to support and pull others up, and we use that opportunity wisely!
Here it goes: कोई तो मिला होगा, a ghazal on gratitude written in hindi
